The Old Finland enlarged in the Peace of Turku which ended the period of Lesser Hate (1741-1743), that is: the following military confrontation between Sweden and Russia. The territory along the western branch of Kymijoki was then incorporated into it. This strip of land included e.g. Savonlinna, Hamina and Lappeenranta.
