| Main page Border areas tend to be in the periphery of economic and cultural
development. In the national state, where the capital often is placed in the centre of the
territory, they are far from the centre of political power. The more tense the situation
between the bordering countries, the more difficult becomes the life of the peoples in the
border region. In the worst of cases the region becomes an undeveloped "security
zone".
The population of the border areas is often both
linguistically and culturally heterogeneous, witch sometimes make them suspicious from the
point of view of the central power and the dominant ideology. On the other hand, the
border region can be a melting pot of cultural influence and economic activity, where the
differences are seen as a source of strength rather then a cause of conflict.
Crossing Borders tries to promote the later alternative by
bringing pictures from both sides of the most Eastern border of the European Union within
the reach of the media community and private persons. Here you can get a glimpse of the
present and the past of a European border region.
You can buy the right to publish the pictures in the way
you choose.
